Sawara Merchant Town Hotel NIPPONIA

A detached villa-style hotel filled with true Koedo style and flair.

Last update :

Sawara is a historic town that still keeps it’s “Edo” old-world look and feel from its heyday, a time when the area flourished due to its ample waterways. The history cityscape along the Ono riverbank was first recognized in 1996, when it was selected as the first in the Kanto area to be designated as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Historic Buildings.

Sawara Merchant Town Hotel NIPPONIA lives in this same historic city, utilizing Sawara as a home to the 3 different modern renovated historic buildings, including one merchant house over 100 years old, that make up the hotel. Visit here and sink into the antique realm of old Edo, all while enjoying the pure comforts of modern amenities and seamless style that waits inside your room.

At Shuzo Restaurant, the renovated once-brewery from the Edo period is home to “Hakkou French”, a fusion of French cuisines with Japanese touches like soy sauce, miso, noodles, direct brewery-sourced sake and high end quality ingredients from local farms and waters.

Stroll through the streets of Sawara to find a world that looks just like historic “Koedo”. There’s even a few special add-ons for guests that include local tours to sites like Tokun Brewery, a historic sake brewery that was founded in 1825. You can also enjoy the option of a private tour to Katori-Jingu Shrine, one of Japan’s top three shrines until the Edo Period, along with Ise Jingu and Kashima Jingu Shrines. This plan will take you on a formal visit to Katori Shrine and grant you a private tour of the grounds with the head priest to the inner treasure rooms and more, a chance to not just see the shrine but really learn about its near 2600 years of history.
