Ibusuki Municipal Tosenkyo Somen Nagashi

Visited by about 200,000 people each year, Tosenkyo is known as the birthplace of “rotating somen nagashi,” where noodles circle around inside a round table.

The water used here is Tosenkyo Kyoden Spring Water, selected by Japan’s Ministry of the Environment as one of the 100 Exquisite and Well-Conserved Waters of the Heisei Period. About 100,000 metric tons of water gushes out each day and stays at around 55°F year-round, letting you taste somen chilled in this refreshing water.

The menu centers on somen and also features river fish dishes such as salt-grilled trout, koi-koku carp miso soup, and koi no arai, a chilled sliced carp dish. Set meals are also available, with the most popular being the “A Set Meal,” which includes these dishes and 2 rice balls. Drinks range from local options such as Ibusuki Onsen Cider to alcoholic beverages, and in winter, warm dishes such as Tosenkyo onmen hot noodles and unaju grilled eel over rice are also served.

After your meal, it’s also pleasant to stroll through Tosenkyo Park, surrounded by rich nature, and refresh yourself in the cool air along the clear stream.
