This annual fall event celebrates the harvest season at Michi-no-Eki Shodoshima Olive Park on Shodoshima, the birthplace of olive cultivation in Japan. Set among the park’s approximately 2,000 olive trees, harvest activities and olive oil tastings offer a chance to discover the olive culture nurtured on the island.
The one-day Grand Olive Harvest Festival is the largest event of the season. In the olive groves around the Greek windmill, visitors can pick olives for free while learning about their history from volunteer guides. Tastings of Shodoshima olive oil and freshly brined olives, a children’s treasure hunt, bingo with local specialties as prizes, food trucks, and food stalls bring a lively atmosphere to the park.
Other offerings include the Olive Harvest Experience, which combines olive picking with a tour of the oil mill and an oil tasting. Seasonal programs also include Olive Farm Staff, a farm-stay program where participants take part in actual farm work such as harvesting and sorting olives.
