Kanazawa Castle Park

In 1583 (the period of Tensho 11th), Toshiie Maeda entered this castle as the first feudal lord, since then this castle had been used by the Maeda family of Kaga Domain until the early time of the Meiji, later the ruin of this castle was reconstructed to use as a large park for citizens.

Kanazawa Castle Park is one of Kanazawa's most iconic historical attractions. As soon as you enter the park, you can feel the strong atmosphere of an old Japanese castle. The white castle walls and elegant wooden buildings look especially beautiful against the blue sky and greenery.

As you stroll through the park, you can admire the stone walls, castle gates, and traditional buildings, with plenty of picturesque scenery along the way. The spacious grounds are pleasant to walk around, and you can take your time experiencing Kanazawa's history and culture.

Komachi Street

After exiting the East Exit of Kamakura Station, there is a 360-meter road heading north with a red torii gate at the entrance. Along the road are about 250 stores, including restaurants and souvenir shops for tourists, as well as stores that serve the daily needs of local residents.

Komachi Street is a very lively shopping street in Kamakura, and you can feel the bustling tourist atmosphere all the way from the station. Both sides of the street are lined with unique little shops, souvenir stores, and places to eat, making it fun to browse as you walk.

This time, I saw so many tempting desserts and Kamakura specialties that I couldn't resist eating and shopping along the way. The aroma of all kinds of snacks filled the air, and I also bought a few souvenirs to take home. The whole shopping experience was very satisfying.

A Pilgrimage for the Popular Manga, “Slam Dunk”

This is the location of the railway crossing that served as a model for the opening scene of Slam Dunk, a basketball-themed anime that has gained enthusiastic fans not only in Japan, but all over the world.

The railroad crossing in front of Kamakurakōkōmae Station on the Enoden Line is a must-visit pilgrimage spot for many Slam Dunk fans. Standing in front of the familiar scene really felt like stepping into the anime. I happened to see an Enoden train slowly passing by, and together with the ocean in the distance, the scene had a very youthful feel.

Being there in person felt even more special than I had imagined. Although it's just an ordinary railroad crossing, the anime has given it a unique charm. While waiting by the road for the train to pass, I couldn't resist pulling out my phone to capture the iconic scene. Unfortunately, I didn't get the train in the photo 🚂

The Great Buddha of Kamakura at Kotoku-in Temple

As the principal object of worship at Kotoku-in temple (officially known as Daii-san Kotoku-in Shojosen-ji), the Buddhist statue of Amida Nyorai enjoys tremendous popularity among the famous spots of Kamakura. The Great Buddha of Kamakura is familiar for the intensity of its presence.

Kotoku-in Temple, home to the Great Buddha of Kamakura, is one of Kamakura's most iconic attractions. The main draw is the towering Great Buddha. Seeing it in person, its impressive presence left a strong impression, while its solemn expression made me feel calm.

After entering the temple grounds, you can admire the details of the Great Buddha up close and experience the long history of Buddhist culture. The surroundings are simple and peaceful, creating a pleasant atmosphere alongside the Buddha's solemn presence that makes you want to stop and take it all in.

Hasedera temple (Kamakura)

Hasedera Temple, often referred to as "Hase Kannon," is known as one of the most scenic spots in Kamakura. The principal deity is the statue of Kannon, the Goddess of Mercy, with 11 faces. Standing at 9.18 meters high, it is one of the largest wooden Buddha statues in Japan.

Hasedera is a famous historic temple in Kamakura, built along a hillside and surrounded by greenery, making it feel especially peaceful as you walk around. What impressed me most was the tall Kannon statue. It was solemn and striking, and worshiping there also made me feel calm.

Following the temple path uphill, you can enjoy wide-open views of Kamakura and the ocean. Each season offers different scenery, and it's especially beautiful during flower season. Walking around and taking photos really made it feel like a trip.

After visiting Hasedera in person, I felt that it's not only a place of worship but also a place where you can slow down and appreciate nature, history, and culture. The overall atmosphere was comfortable and soothing, and it left a deep impression on me.

Kushida Shrine

This head shrine is said to have been built in the 8th century. Residents in Hakata call it “Okushida san.” Hakata Gion Yamakasa festival declares the arrival of summer to the City of Hakata in July, and is dedicated to this shrine.

Kushida Shrine is one of Fukuoka's most iconic shrines. As soon as you enter the grounds, you can feel the strong atmosphere of traditional Japanese culture. The shrine is quiet and peaceful, and the old trees and stately buildings make it feel especially serene.

While visiting, you can admire the intricate shrine architecture and see the enormous Hakata Gion Yamakasa float on display. Its brilliant colors and imposing presence leave a lasting impression of Fukuoka's famous traditional festival.

Visiting Kushida Shrine in person this time, I not only prayed for safety but also experienced Fukuoka's local history and culture. After walking around, I felt this was a great place to take your time and appreciate, and it's a worthwhile stop on a trip to Fukuoka.

Yusui

The area around Jindaiji Temple is famous for soba shops and it is said there are close to 20 of them. Yuusui’s popularity always keeps it in the competition for 1st or 2nd place.

Yusui soba near Jindaiji Temple is one of the must-try foods here. The soba noodles are smooth with a subtle buckwheat aroma, and paired with a light Japanese dipping sauce, they're simple yet flavorful. The noodles are cold and especially refreshing in hot weather. Enjoying them with some tempura adds a savory crunch alongside the light, refreshing soba.

Jindaiji Temple

This temple is renowned for warding off dangers and matchmaking, with a National Treasure, a seated Buddha statue of Shaka Nyorai, located in the Shaka Hall.

Jindaiji Temple felt very peaceful and laid-back to me. Once inside, I was surrounded by lush greenery, a striking contrast to the lively atmosphere of central Tokyo. Strolling slowly along the approach, I could admire the traditional temple architecture and experience Japan's rich history and culture.

Kitaro Chaya

GeGeGe no Kitaro, a fan favorite for generations, now makes it way to this shop along Tenjin-dori Shopping Street in Chofu City, the town and proclaimed second home where creator Shigeru Mizuki spent years at work.

Kitaro Chaya is a very distinctive attraction near Jindaiji Temple in Tokyo, filled with fun elements from GeGeGe no Kitaro. Familiar yokai characters can be seen both outside and inside the shop, making you feel as if you've stepped into Kitaro's world as soon as you enter. Besides enjoying matcha, sweets, and other specialty items, you can also buy lots of exclusive merchandise and souvenirs.

Meiji Jingu Shrine

Meiji Shrine was established in 1920 (Taisho 9) as a shrine to enshrine Emperor Meiji and Empress Shoken.

Meiji Jingu Shrine is an especially peaceful place in central Tokyo. After entering, I slowly walked along the tree-lined approach and felt as though I had suddenly left the city's hustle and bustle behind. Tall trees surrounded me, the air was fresh, and the atmosphere was both solemn and relaxing. I visited the shrine to pray for safety and also admired the architecture and scenery rich in traditional Japanese character.
