Otaru Triangle Market

The Otaru Triangle Market, nestled between JR Otaru Station and National Route 5, is a small yet historic marketplace with origins dating back to the 1940s. It began with a few street vendors and developed as a morning market, accumulating over 60 years of history. Just a minute's walk from Otaru Station, the market is conveniently accessible and, except for New Year's Day, is open almost daily. Its reputation for affordable prices attracts a steady flow of both locals and tourists from Japan and abroad. The market's name derives from its triangular-shaped plot and roof.

You have to visit the Triangle Market in Otaru. There are many seafood shops inside, and as soon as you walk in, you'll see an abundance of fresh seafood. The whole market is filled with the seafood atmosphere of Hokkaido.

This time, I came especially for a seafood rice bowl. The bowl was piled high with fresh seafood and looked incredibly tempting!

Nukumori no Yado Furu-kawa

A hot spring inn in Jozankei, a beautiful valley designated as part of Shikotsu-Toya National Park. With “hometown” as its theme, this wood-warmed retreat welcomes guests with heartfelt hospitality from staff in samue workwear. The three-level bathhouse features a garden inspired by Jozankei’s nature, and you can enjoy seasonal scenery while soaking in open-air baths and large public baths, each with its own character.

On this trip to Jozankei, I stayed at Nukumori no Yado Furu-kawa. The entire hotel felt as warm and welcoming as its name suggests, with the atmosphere of a traditional Japanese inn. From the moment I entered, the surroundings felt very comfortable and perfect for a relaxing vacation.

The room was very comfortable, and the Japanese-style decor gave it a special atmosphere. After soaking in the hot spring and returning to the room to rest, I felt completely relaxed. Especially in the cold weather, this kind of stay was truly enjoyable.

gashacoco Ikebukuro

Just about a 2-minute walk from Ikebukuro Station, “gashacoco Ikebukuro” is a specialty shop dedicated to capsule toys. With a sales floor of about 150 tsubo (about 495 m²), it boasts around 1,500 capsule toy vending machines. The lineup spans a wide range of genres, including anime characters, Heisei retro, and food motifs.

While shopping in Ikebukuro, I happened to pass by gashacoco and couldn't resist going in when I saw all the capsule toy machines! They had all kinds of anime items, characters, and cute little trinkets. Just looking at the machines felt so soothing.

This time, I decided to try my luck with an Anpanman capsule toy. The moment I turned the knob, I was really excited to see which one I'd get!

JR EAST PASS (Tohoku Area)

This free-to-ride pass is available for global tourists and foreign Japan residents alike. It offers unlimited rides for 5 days on JR East lines, including bullet trains, limited express trains, BRT (Bus Rapid Transit), the entire Tokyo Monorail line, the entire Aoimori Railway line, and the entire Iwate Galaxy Railway (IGR) line, covering the area from Kanto to Tohoku. A major perk is the unlimited use of reserved seats on bullet trains and limited express trains within the valid period.

When I traveled to Hokkaido for the first time, I originally wanted to try riding a JR East train, but the railway wasn't open yet at the time, so I'll have to put it on the list for my next trip.

I've always felt that traveling by train has a special charm. You can sit back and slowly enjoy the scenery along the way, and easily visit different cities without having to drive yourself. Hokkaido's natural scenery along the route is also something to look forward to!

Nihombashi Takashimaya was opened at the current place in Tokyo in 1933. The flagship store of this national department store will have the 90th anniversary in 2023, which is known as a landmark in Nihombashi area.

I went shopping at Nihombashi Takashimaya S.C. in Tokyo and even bought a Gucci bag this time! The overall atmosphere at Takashimaya is very comfortable, and there are lots of brands to choose from. It feels refined and is a great place to browse and take your time choosing. I was really happy to finally find a bag I liked.

I looked at several different designs while choosing, but in the end, I still felt this one suited me best. The moment I bought it, I felt the satisfaction of finding the perfect souvenir from my trip. Thinking about carrying it when I go out makes this Tokyo trip feel like an even more special memory.

At Tokyo's Yomiuriland, I found quite a few cute limited-edition items, and the stickers were especially eye-catching! The various cute designs really capture the amusement park feel, and whenever I saw one I liked, I couldn't help wanting to take it home for my collection.

The stickers are small and convenient, making them perfect for a suitcase, notebook, or travel journal. They're also a meaningful little souvenir from the trip.

On my trip to Kyushu, I used the JR KYUSHU RAIL PASS, and it was really convenient for visiting several cities in one trip! Attractions around Kyushu are relatively far apart, so traveling by JR train saves a lot of time on transfers and buying tickets.

Along the way, you can enjoy the scenery of different parts of Kyushu through the train window, making the train ride itself part of the journey. Especially if your itinerary includes several cities, planning your routes and travel sections in advance makes using the pass easier.

At Busena Marine Park in Okinawa, take a glass-bottom boat to enjoy the underwater scenery! Without getting in the water, you can see the clear ocean through the transparent glass on the bottom of the boat. Along the way, you can also see schools of fish swimming back and forth beneath the boat, making it feel like you’re touring the underwater world in a small boat.

When the boat reaches a better viewing spot, everyone gathers around the glass windows to look for fish. It’s really exciting when a school of fish passes by. The water is clear and looks beautiful with the sunlight shining through. The whole experience is quite relaxing and is perfect for people who want to see the underwater scenery without getting in the water.

When shopping in Harajuku, you definitely shouldn't miss Laforet Harajuku! The entire mall has a youthful, distinctive, and trendy atmosphere, with lots of Japanese fashion brands, clothing stores, and unique little shops. Each floor has a different style, making it fun to browse.

The clothing styles here are also very diverse, ranging from sweet and cute to streetwear and more distinctive looks. Many women can't help but stop and take their time browsing when they find a store they like. Even if you're just wandering around casually, it's easy to discover brands and small items you don't usually come across.

The architecture itself is very distinctive, with a strong sense of modern Japanese design on the exterior. During this trip to Kyoto, I made a special trip here to walk around. The surrounding area is very pleasant and relaxing to stroll through.

The exhibitions inside the museum change depending on the season, so every visit feels different. In addition to enjoying the artwork, I also really liked the museum's simple, well-designed spaces. Even casual photos have a great atmosphere.
