This red brick warehouse was a world-renowned state-of-the-art Japanese warehouse from the Meiji era into the Taisho era. Presently, its appearance has been maintained, and the 2-building warehouse contains shops, restaurants, and a multipurpose hall, making it a culture and shopping spot.

When visiting Yokohama, the Red Brick Warehouse is a classic attraction that's almost impossible to miss. The red brick buildings have a strong international feel, and the warehouses are filled with distinctive restaurants, cafés, and artsy little shops where you can browse and enjoy good food. There are also often seasonal exhibitions and events. The buildings have a classic appearance and are surrounded by harbor views, making the area perfect for a relaxing daytime stroll. At night, the lights add an even more romantic atmosphere.

The Ueno Royal Museum

This private art museum was opened in Ueno Park in 1972. It does not have a permanent exhibition, but holds special exhibitions and public entry exhibitions along with artwork from oversea museums and important cultural properties on a regular basis. In 1994, VOCA Exhibition started sharing new work by young artists 40 and younger.

The Ueno Royal Museum is located in Ueno Park and is one of Tokyo's major exhibition spaces. It is known for holding special exhibitions at various times, covering paintings, sculptures, Western art, and more. The exhibitions change frequently, and internationally renowned works are often displayed here. The original version of “The Milkmaid” was also exhibited here in 2018–2019, attracting many art lovers. If there happens to be a special exhibition that interests you, it's well worth planning a visit.

ZAKURO lamp shop

Located in the nostalgic Yanaka Ginza shopping street, ZAKURO lamp shop was opened in 2015 by Ali-san, the beloved owner of the nearby restaurant Zakuro. Fascinated by Turkish mosaic lamps, Ali-san wanted to introduce their beauty to Japan. The shop, filled with exotic charm, offers a dazzling array of colorful lamps handpicked by Ali-san himself.

ZAKURO LAMP HOUSE is located around Yanaka Ginza and specializes in Turkish-style mosaic lamps. The shop is filled with colorful Turkish lamps in all kinds of shapes, and the multicolored glass looks beautiful when illuminated, making it feel like you've stepped onto a street corner in another country. In addition to admiring and purchasing the various lamps, you can also take part in a Turkish mosaic lamp workshop, where you can personally select the glass and beads to design your own lamp~ It's a distinctive place that's worth stopping by after exploring Yanaka Ginza.

Togoshi Ginza Shopping Street is about 1.3 kilometers long and lined with many prepared-food shops, dessert shops, izakayas, and stores selling everyday goods. It isn't as commercialized as a tourist area, so you can see many local residents doing their everyday shopping. There are plenty of casual food options, including fried foods, croquettes, and oden. The shopping street has a lively and friendly atmosphere. It's very relaxing to buy a few snacks you like and enjoy them as you stroll around.

Located in the Monzenmachi shopping street near Aso Shrine, this patisserie is run by the third-generation patissier and owner, Masafumi Tano. The shop’s specialty is the "Tanoshu," crafted with Tano's dedication to fresh cream. The choux pastry, topped with roasted almonds, is filled with custard cream made with pure fresh cream that flows out deliciously. Despite using a rich cream with 48% milk fat, Tano’s exceptional skills ensure the taste remains light and delightful.

It specializes in traditional Nagasaki confections and is one of five directly managed stores operated by Obama Shokuryo Co., a long-established sweets maker based in Nagasaki Prefecture.

Toraya is famous for its yokan. I always thought yokan was rather sweet and came in fairly large portions, so I never particularly wanted to buy any to take home. But Toraya's yokan really changed my mind! The portions are small and refined, and each box contains many different flavors, so you can try several at once without getting tired of them as easily. It's perfect for sharing with a few friends, cutting it into small pieces, and enjoying it slowly. It goes especially well with Japanese green tea, whose aroma helps balance the sweetness of the yokan and makes it even easier to enjoy. I'd like to try some of their other sweets next time!

I saw Butter Butler at Tokyo Station First Avenue. Its products highlight the rich aroma of butter, and the buttery flavor really does stand out, with a very rich taste and texture. For me, though, it was a little too oily and noticeably sweet and heavy. A small piece is just right, and it would be better paired with tea or coffee.

A novel sweet created by long-established confectionery maker Hyogetsudo, combining takoyaki with Western-style pastry. A pastry chef transformed takoyaki, a traditional Osaka favorite, into an authentic baked confection. Its surprising flavor quickly made it a popular Osaka specialty. The distinctive takoyaki flavors of sauce, aonori seaweed, and bonito flakes are layered with the sweetness of walnuts and caramelization to create something entirely new.

I unexpectedly came across this “Tako Pâtissier” while browsing the airport shops. At first glance, it seemed a little unusual, and I really hadn’t seen anything like it before〜 I bought one out of curiosity, and it turned out to be surprisingly good! The savory takoyaki flavor pairs with the crisp, slightly sweet puff pastry, creating an interesting mix of sweet and savory flavors and textures. It was a nice little surprise I happened upon during my trip.
