Kokusai-dori is perfect for spending half a day or even a full day exploring at a leisurely pace!

The whole street is very lively, with restaurants, souvenir shops, drugstores, and local specialty shops lining both sides. Whether you want something to eat or want to shop, you can find it all here. And don't just stick to Kokusai-dori—the nearby Ichiba Hondori, Heiwa-dori, and Makishi Public Market are also well worth exploring. There are many small local Okinawan shops and places to eat tucked away in the alleys, making it more interesting than you might expect.

This area is also one of Naha's most iconic historic districts. After developing in the postwar period, it gradually grew into the lively markets and shopping streets seen today, offering a glimpse of everyday life in Okinawa.

Recommended route: Start at Makishi Station ➜ Makishi Public Market ➜ Ichiba Hondori ➜ Heiwa-dori ➜ Kokusai-dori.

Take your time, eat whatever catches your eye, and buy whatever you like, then make your way back to Kokusai-dori at the end. That's the most enjoyable way to explore. You really can eat from morning to night and shop until your hands are full. If it's your first time in Okinawa, this area is well worth setting aside plenty of time to explore at a leisurely pace!

If you want to try a different kind of shabu-shabu in Okinawa, give this place a try! It's tucked away in the basement, down a short flight of stairs. Reservations are recommended on weekends.

We chose the Kin Agu set. The broth was very good, and the Agu pork was delicious, though the portion really wasn't that large. Fortunately, the vegetables are unlimited, so anyone who loves vegetables should be satisfied.

You can also help yourself to ice cream after the meal, which I really liked. It was surprisingly delicious! It seems you can also finish the hot pot with noodle soup or rice in broth, but we ate too much ice cream and simply couldn't fit anything else, so we had to skip it.

Naha's famous Fukusuke Tamagoyaki is an extremely popular takeout shop specializing in tamagoyaki in Okinawa. The extra-thick tamagoyaki made right in front of you looks so tempting! This time, I tried the JPY 450 "Original Tamagoyaki," which combines tamagoyaki with SPAM luncheon meat, known as "PORK" in Okinawa, and wraps them into a rice ball. The tamagoyaki is moist and slightly sweet, while the luncheon meat is savory and salty, perfectly balancing the sweetness of the egg. They go surprisingly well together without being too rich. Order at the self-service kiosk and wait for your number to be called. There are benches nearby where you can eat it right away. If you want to try something new in Okinawa, give this local soul food a try.

After the original store opened in 2015 at Naha City, Okinawa, there are currently 25 stores in Okinawa and 70 in Japan. As Japan’s finest steak chain, a thick, juicy steak is prepared at the store, and grilled with lava rock from Mt. Fuji. With the power of infrared, the steak is crispy outside, and juicy inside. Any excess grease is absorbed by the lava rock. The steak is filling, yet easy to digest.

An affordable steak chain you can find all over Okinawa. If you want steak at a reasonable price, it's worth trying! The restaurant uses a self-service ordering machine. After ordering, just take your meal ticket and hand it directly to a staff member.

Besides steak, the salad, macaroni, white rice, red bean rice, and soup are all-you-can-eat self-service, so you'll definitely leave full, but drinks cost extra. I recommend choosing a whole steak that you cut yourself. The texture is a little better than the pre-cut beef chunks and hamburger steak. There are tons of sauces on the table, around 10 kinds, so you can mix and match different flavors.
