Amami Oshima island

The south island where time passes leisurely.

Last update :

It's the largest of Kagoshima's outlying islands. This is an island of deep forests colored with subtropical plants and emerald green coral reefs. Whale watching, diving, and other marine activities are popular here. The island's natural wilderness, home to rare animals, was registered as a World Natural Heritage site in 2021.

Ohama Seaside Park, with its cobalt blue ocean and white sandy beach, is a beautiful spot for sunsets and is also known as a spawning ground for sea turtles. The Amami Seaside Museum exhibits marine life and traditional fishing methods in the park. Kuroshio No Mori Mangrove Park in Sumiyo-cho is adjacent to a magnificent mangrove forest. Visitors can take a canoe ride through the mangrove forest.

Amami Oshima is accessible by air. Direct flights are available from Tokyo, Osaka, Fukuoka, and other cities. Buses run from the airport to the city center, and there are many flights. Ferries also operate between Kagoshima Shinko Port and Naha Port in Okinawa while passing through the Amami Islands so that you can take a relaxing cruise.
