Hakkoda Ropeway is on one of the Hakkoda Mountains, Mt. Tamoyachi, connecting the foot of the mountain and the mountain top park at 1,314m above sea level in 10 minutes. Not only tourists seeking the seasonal natural beauty of Hakkoda, but also hikers in summer and skiers in winter love to visit here.
The ropeway runs throughout the year, offering a variety of views over fresh green in mid May, fall foliage from late September through mid October, and rime from January through late February. From the gondola's windows and at the top of the mountain, you can see outstanding scenery, especially in fall. Nearly 100,000 visitors ride the ropeway in October every year. On a clear day, you can look over all the way to Aomori City, Mutsu Bay or Mt. Iwaki.
There is a wetland around the mountain top park known as a treasury of alpine plants. Two kinds of treks are set - 30-minute and 60-minute courses - for casual hiking.
