Rikugien Gardens is one of Tokyo’s most iconic Japanese gardens and, together with Koishikawa Korakuen Gardens, is known as one of the “Two Great Gardens of Edo.” As soon as you enter, you can feel the peaceful atmosphere, completely different from central Tokyo.

The grounds are lush and green, with the pond, trees, and traditional garden scenery complementing one another. It’s very relaxing to stroll around, as if you’ve temporarily escaped the noise of the city. It’s a great place to slow down and enjoy forest bathing and plenty of phytoncides.

There is also a park and children’s play equipment near the entrance, making it convenient for families. If you’re visiting Tokyo and want a laid-back, relaxing place for a walk, Rikugien Gardens is definitely worth adding to your itinerary.

Rainbow Bridge

“Rainbow Bridge,” an approximately 800-meter-long suspension bridge, is an iconic part of Tokyo architecture that connects Odaiba and Shibaura. At night the bridge is beautifully illuminated, and many people visit it to take pictures of one of Tokyo’s most well-known night views. The bridge has a dual structure: the upper section functions as an Metropolitan expressway, while the lower section is used by a general roadway, the Yurikamome Line, and a walking path.

Odaiba's Rainbow Bridge in Tokyo lights up at night, shining with enchanting rainbow-colored lights. It's one of Tokyo's classic landmarks.

Looking toward Rainbow Bridge from Odaiba, a beautiful harbor view stretches out before you. During the day, there's an expansive ocean view, while at night it feels more romantic and relaxing. Quite a few people stroll along the beach in the evening, while others sit beside the walkway chatting and enjoying the sea breeze. The atmosphere is very pleasant and comfortable.

With nowhere in particular to rush off to, simply taking my time enjoying the ocean view and lights made it easier to appreciate the charm of Tokyo at night. I really liked this relaxed, carefree atmosphere. It's a highly recommended place to spend some time when visiting Odaiba.
Yanaka Ginza

After looking at Yanaka Cemetery on your left and keep going up on a gentle ascent, the Gotenzaka, you will find stairs called “the Yuyake-dandan”. The stairs are landmarks of Yanaka, which is a loved place because it is famous for its beautiful sunset. When going down the stairs, the Yanaka Ginza spreads in front of you.

Yanaka Ginza is an old shopping street in Tokyo with lots of character. Walking down from the Yuyake Dandan steps, you'll find small shops full of local everyday life along the way, selling prepared foods, desserts, sundries, and all kinds of local specialties. It doesn't have the bustle of a large department store, but instead offers the relaxed and welcoming atmosphere of a traditional Tokyo neighborhood.

What I like most here is the feeling of strolling slowly and browsing at leisure. There's no need to plan any special itinerary. Just taking in the street scenery and having a few snacks makes for a very comfortable afternoon. If you happen to be there at sunset, standing on the steps and watching the sun go down is the most iconic Yanaka Ginza scene.
The University of Tokyo Akamon

Akamon is a red gate located at the University of Tokyo’s Hongo Campus. Although there are historical structures everywhere inside this campus, Akamon is known as a symbol of the University.

While in Tokyo, I made a special trip to walk around the University of Tokyo, and the famous Akamon was the most eye-catching sight. The old vermilion gate stands out amid the lush green campus and is one of the university's most recognizable landmarks. Standing in front of Akamon, you can feel the history and academic atmosphere built up over the century-old campus. It's completely different from the atmosphere at typical tourist attractions. Getting to see one of Japan's top universities in person also made this a very special stop on my Tokyo trip!
