Whenever I visit a supermarket in Japan, this S&B Premium Wasabi Paste is one of my must-buys. It’s very convenient, and you can easily squeeze out just the right amount whenever you want some. It’s perfect mixed with Japanese soy sauce for dipping sashimi or pairing with various Japanese dishes. My favorite way to enjoy it is to put a little on plain edamame. It instantly adds so much flavor and aroma while balancing out richer foods. Whether for cooking at home or having a late-night drink, it’s an indispensable kitchen staple.

Fujiyama Cookie
Fujiyama Cookie carefully bakes their cookies one by one at the main store at the foot of Mt. Fuji. Due to the auspicious shape of Mt. Fuji, it is also used as a gift for weddings, celebrations and private celebrations.
On this trip to Lake Kawaguchi, we chose to explore by bicycle, so we could stop whenever we saw a place we liked. From a distance, we were drawn to a cute little building, and the rich aroma of butter in the air made us stop and check it out.
As soon as we entered FUJIYAMA COOKIE, we were captivated by the beautifully crafted Mt. Fuji-shaped cookies on the shelves. Not only is the elegant packaging perfect for gifts, but the cookies also come in a variety of colorful flavors and shades. They were so cute that we wanted to take home one of each. After buying them, we immediately went to the shore of Lake Kawaguchi and opened the matcha-flavored cookies to try them. Their crisp texture and just-right sweetness were perfect for Taiwanese dessert preferences, making them a perfect souvenir that looks as good as it tastes.

GAUFRES AU GOUTER
"Gaufres" are sweets that sandwich cream between thin layers of baked dough, made using Western confectionery ingredients such as flour, sugar, milk, and butter, utilizing the technique of baking Japanese senbei (rice crackers).
I still remember the first time I tried Kobe Fugetsudo gaufres that a friend brought back from Japan. Their remarkable texture left a deep impression on me. The thin wafers have just the right amount of crispness, and every bite is filled with a delightful egg flavor. The filling has a moderate sweetness that doesn’t overpower the wafers, and the two blend together perfectly.
The best part is that they often release special limited-edition varieties for different seasons. Whenever I travel to Japan, I always make a special trip to a department store or one of their counters to look for them. The packaging is elegant and makes a very presentable gift. If you haven’t tried them yet, be sure to experience this classic flavor for yourself if you get the chance.

Rokkatei Rokka no Tsuyu
Among Rokkatei’s popular products, Rokka no Tsuyu is perhaps the most enchanting for its jewel-like appeal. Opening the small, flower-patterned tin reveals six colorful types of candy, each resembling a precious gem.
When it comes to classic souvenirs that represent Hokkaido, Rokkatei’s liquor-filled candies are a treat just for adults. The refined, elegant packaging is as charming as ever, and opening it is as fun as opening a surprise package.
The crisp candy shells come in different colors, and when you bite into one, you’ll find a rich liquor filling in a variety of flavors. The alcohol aroma is just right—not overly strong or sharp, but lightly fragrant. The moment it melts in your mouth is full of delightful surprises. It’s not only a unique and thoughtful gift for adults, but also a slightly boozy souvenir to savor during your travels and remember afterward. If you don’t want to give the usual cookie-type souvenir, this is a good choice.
