The hit express train soaring past the Izu sky and seas between Tokyo and Izukyu-Shimoda.

Last update :

This express sightseeing train runs the route from Tokyo/Shinjuku down to Izukyu-Shimoda. The name Saphir comes from the word Sapphire, and points to the gorgeous blue sea and skies as they zip by. The Saphir ODORIKO train itself has a blue wrap, hinting at the treasures that await on your gem of a trip.

The entire train is Green Class seats. In cars 5-8 you’ll find cozy seating with outlets. There’s 1-4 person private cars that are perfect from families, and even 8 private rooms that fit 1-6 people. At the café car you can try original treats and drinks available via pre-order.

Look at the window on the way down to Izukyu-Shimoda on a clear day to see Mt. Fuji just before Odawara Station, or a view of Sagami Bay as it comes into sight between Odawara and Hayakawa Station. Between Izu-Atagawa and Izu-Inatori Stations the wide-open ocean comes into view just outside the window. Gaze out on the waves crashing against the rocks, or the island of Oshima floating across the Pacific. The last stop of Saphir ODORIKO will bring you down the east coast of the Izu Penninsula to Izukyu-Shimoda Station. It’s a port town famous for seeing a visit from Matthew Perry in 1859. Once here you can enjoy a walk along the same stone-layered path that he walked in Shimoda.

Just 2.5-3 hours from Tokyo, this port city is home to a history that spans as far back as the last days of the shogunate. On the Saphir ODORIKO you can enjoy your trip there in style.
