Located just steps from JR Maibara Station, Sushi Fumoto is a sushi restaurant run by its second-generation owner. It is known for seasonal ingredients carefully selected from around Japan, as well as à la carte dishes and course meals made with ingredients from Shiga Prefecture.
You can enjoy fish from Lake Biwa such as Biwamasu trout, as well as Omi shrimp raised in the spring water flowing from Mt. Ibuki. At lunch, set meals combine seafood chirashi sushi, tempura, grilled dishes, and more. In the evening, the restaurant serves à la carte dishes such as assorted tempura and nigiri, along with the Fumoto Chef’s Choice Course and Fumoto Chef’s Choice Nigiri. In winter only, seasonal courses such as longtooth grouper hot pot, pufferfish hot pot, and blackthroat seaperch shabu-shabu hot pot are also available.
The restaurant is also well regarded for its exceptionally strict beer quality control, earning recognition in Sapporo Beer’s THE PERFECT Kuro Label AWARD 2024 STAR FAMILY. It also offers local sake sourced from around Japan, including Shiga brands such as Kirakucho and Shichihonyari. With counter seats, tatami rooms, and private rooms, it can accommodate banquets of up to 80 people across the first and second floors.
