Shirasagiyu Tawaraya
An 800-year-old inn where you can enjoy refined hot springs and cuisine surrounded by the natural beauty of a scenic landscape.
Approx. 1 hour by car from Kanazawa Station, Yamanaka Onsen spreads through Kakusenkei Gorge, one of Ishikawa’s most scenic places. Standing beside the mountain stream, Shirasagiyu Tawaraya is one of the 12 original inns known as “Yumoto Juniken,” founded in the Kamakura period (1185–1333), and has continued as a long-established ryokan for 800 years across 36 generations. The gorge’s natural beauty changes with the seasons, from fresh greenery in early summer and autumn foliage to snowy winter landscapes, and can be enjoyed from the open-air baths, guest rooms, lobby, and other spots throughout the inn.
The large communal bath and the open-air baths in the guest rooms use 100% natural hot spring water from Yamanaka Onsen, which boasts a history of 1,300 years since its discovery. The clear, colorless water gently envelops the skin and warms the body from the core. For dinner, guests can enjoy cuisine unique to Yamanaka Onsen, blessed with delicacies from both the mountains and the sea. Choose from menus such as traditional Kaga kaiseki, creative French cuisine, or lavish kaiseki courses, and savor seasonal flavors including fresh seafood and Kaga vegetables.
The sukiya-style guest rooms come in a variety of types, including standard Japanese-style rooms and spacious Western-style rooms. The guest rooms with open-air baths, introduced in 2023, come in three types, including rooms with a sauna for enjoying authentic Finnish-style loyly bathing and rooms with a dining table for in-room meals. Guests can also use an exclusive lounge, perfect for spending a relaxing time.
