Kanazawa Machiya Kenroku

Kanazawa Machiya Kenroku is a whole-house rental accommodation in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture. It makes use of a historic machiya townhouse designated as a nationally registered tangible cultural property. A machiya is a traditional wooden building that developed as both a residence and a shop. The inn was built more than 150 years ago and was once home to a lower-ranking samurai of the Kaga Domain. The interior also retains traces of the late Edo and Meiji periods.

The inn has been renovated while preserving machiya design features such as a kaidan tansu staircase chest, prewar tin walls, and a toriniwa earthen passageway. Its exterior is distinguished by kanban kenchiku, a style featuring Western-style ornamentation.
