Okinawa's American Village has a strong international atmosphere, with colorful buildings and a waterfront promenade that make you feel as though you're on the coast of California. In the evening, sit on the seaside jetty and watch the afterglow of the sunset. The golden sunset is mesmerizingly beautiful. Besides being great for shopping and photos, you can also enjoy popular, freshly made authentic Okinawan rice balls and sata andagi, traditional Okinawan doughnuts that are crisp outside, soft inside, and sweet and delicious. It's a distinctive spot that perfectly combines beautiful scenery with delicious local food!

Yomitan Village

Yomitan Village is located in central Okinawa Island, about an hour’s drive from Naha Airport or downtown Naha. With a population of over 42,000, it is known as the most populous village in Japan.

Yomitan Village is a treasure trove of Okinawa's rich cultural heritage. There were only a few visitors on the day I went, and almost all were locals who had driven there. The village has a centuries-old pottery tradition called Yuntanzayaki. Stroll through the rustic, handcrafted atmosphere of Yomitan Village, browse the local pottery shops and kilns, then order a bowl of refreshing, nostalgic shaved ice served in locally made pottery. It's cool and relaxing, and the shop also has a friendly little black cat. Spending an afternoon here lets you fully experience Okinawa's warm, slow-paced, historic charm.

Zanpa Misaki

Zanpa Misaki is a stunning cape located in Yomitan Village, central Okinawa. Stretching approximately 2 km along the East China Sea, its towering 30-meter cliffs create a dramatic landscape where waves crash against the rugged rocks, sending white sprays into the air.

Zanpa Cape Lighthouse is definitely worth a visit! It’s one of the few lighthouses you can climb, and once you reach the top, you get a stunning 360-degree view of the sheer cliffs and deep blue ocean. After climbing the stairs, be sure to check out the eye-catching vintage bus nearby. Grab a refreshing ice cream—it’s the perfect treat on a scorching summer day and makes for great photos too!

One Suite Restaurant “L LOTA”

L LOTA is a restaurant on Kouri Island, Approx. a 90-minute drive from Okinawa’s main island. Set on a hilltop with sweeping 270-degree views, it overlooks the emerald-green sea. The glass-walled, airy dining room lets you soak up the beautiful nature, and there are also terrace seats where you can enjoy the pleasant breeze. Here, you can savor creative Italian cuisine made with fresh Okinawan ingredients.

The experience at L LOTA on Kouri Island was unforgettable! I highly recommend coming at sunset—the view outside, bathed in the evening glow, is breathtaking. The ingredients were fresh, and the food was authentic and delicious. The atmosphere was comfortable and relaxing, and the service was warm and attentive. After dinner, we walked outside and looked up to see a sky full of stars—so romantic! There's a parking lot right across from the restaurant, making parking very convenient. This is definitely a place I'd return to.

KOURI SHRIMP

Located on the southern end of Okinawa’s scenic Kouri Island, the nicknamed “North Shore of Okinawa”, KOURI SHRIMP is a specialty food truck serving Hawaiian-style garlic shrimp, right by the emerald-blue sea.

KOURI SHRIMP is a must when visiting Kouri Island! Their signature garlic shrimp rice is rich and aromatic, and the shrimp are springy, flavorful, and very distinctive. It gets more crowded in the summer, so I recommend finding a seat after ordering. I especially recommend the rooftop dining area, where you can enjoy delicious food in the sea breeze while taking in the gorgeous ocean view. Pair it with a local Okinawan beer, and it's such a treat!

Kouri Ocean Tower

Perched on a hill on Kouri Island, the Kouri Ocean Tower is a striking white structure that contrasts beautifully with the waters below that are so beautifully turquoise they’ve coined specially as “Kouri Blue."

From the top of Kouri Ocean Tower, an endless gradient of “Kouri Blue” stretches out before you, with the magnificent Kouri Bridge running straight across the sea. The view is truly breathtaking! Ring the “Bell of Happiness” on the rooftop observation deck and look out over the gorgeous ocean as the sea breeze blows and the bell echoes around you. It’s romantic and soothing, and definitely a must-visit highlight of Kouri Island!
Also, the air conditioning is nice and cool, and there are plenty of souvenir shops. If you’re visiting Okinawa in the summer, it’s a good place to escape the heat.

Tinu Beach

Located on the northern side of Kouri Island, a small island surrounded by beautiful emerald-green waters and spanning about 8 km in circumference, Tinu Beach is a popular spot. Known as the "Island of Love" for centuries, Kouri Island draws special attention to Tinu Beach, home to the heart-shaped rock formation, or "Heart Rock," a famous love-themed power spot.

In the crystal-clear “Kouri Blue” waters, these two natural heart-shaped rocks nestle together as if witnessing eternal love. The white sand, waves lapping against the shore, and heart-shaped rocks create a stunning scene. Every photo looks like a romantic postcard, and quietly watching the waves makes this a truly heart-stirring spot.

Kouri Ohashi Bridge

The Kouri Bridge, inaugurated in 2005, is a remote island bridge spanning 1,960 meters, connecting Yagaji Island in Nago City and Kouri Island. As the second-longest bridge in Okinawa that can be crossed for free, it is renowned for the breathtaking view of the emerald-green sea stretching on both sides. This makes it not only a popular drive route but also a highly sought-after scenic spot.

The bridge to Kouri Island is very impressive, with a distinctive wave-like shape, and the beach is even more captivating. A short path beside the rest stop on the island leads to the shore in just a few steps. As the sun sets, golden light spills across the sea, blending with the beautiful beach like a painting. Amid the gentle breeze and sound of the waves, enjoying the peaceful and moving Kouri Blue feels cleansing for the soul.

Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium

“Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium” is a popular tourist spot, located in Okinawa’s Kaiyohaku Park. If you take the building’s escalator down from the 4th floor to the 3rd, you’ll find yourself at the entrance to the aquarium. The aquarium is designed as a “deep dive” into the ocean as you go down to the 2nd and 1st floors, so as you descend, a magnificent world filled with mysterious Okinawan ocean creatures unfolds before you!

Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium is breathtaking! At the aquarium café, you can enjoy a drink while watching huge whale sharks glide right by you up close—it's truly awe-inspiring. The highlight was the limited-time "Kuroshio Exploration," where an elevator takes you directly above the Kuroshio Sea tank. Looking down from above, you can experience the vastness and vitality of the ocean world. Definitely worth the visit!
